Fit For Marriage
A weekly Fit For Marriage message from Russell Yates, a man with a compelling message— straight from the Bible—that challenges the disintegration of the Christian family.

The Most Sinful Sin

Is one sin more sinful than another? I'm not sure, but I know some sins are more destructive than others. I want to focus on that most destructive sin—the sin of Satan.

How art thou fallen from heaven, O Lucifer, son of the morning! … For thou hast said in thine heart, I will ascend into heaven … I will be like the most High. Isaiah 14:12-14

Some sins are more destructive than others.

Satan attempted to usurp the place of God. Since then his mission has been to convince others to follow his evil example.

Shortly after the creation of man, Satan appeared as the tempter. He targeted the woman—not the man! Here's what he said to Eve:

For God doth know that in the day ye eat thereof, then your eyes shall be opened, and ye shall be as gods … .Genesis 3:5, emphasis added

Eve bought his story, and then led her husband into sin. They, too, wanted to usurp the place of God. Since then, every man enters this world convinced he is “God,” and confident his usurpation is just.

God makes a man, puts him into the world, and then gives him an entire lifetime to discover … as the song says, God is God and he is not.

God gives a man an entire lifetime to discover that God is God and he isn't.

For Satan, there is no forgiveness—he is destined for hell. But the Lord has provided a remedy for each man who will accept it. If we are to find our way back, we must first acknowledge where we've been.

And Adam was not deceived, but the woman being deceived was in the transgression.1 Timothy 2:14

If the woman was deceived, and the woman led the man into sin, then it is entirely appropriate that the woman should be called to lead the man to repentance—to bring him back to that place of surrender to God. And how is a woman to do that? Peter explains as follows:

Likewise, ye wives, be in subjection to your own husbands; that, if any obey not the word, they also may without the word be won by the behavior of their wives. 1 Peter 3:1

Some men have abused their wives in the name of submission. Is that an adequate reason for a woman to refuse submission? The passage above assumes the man is a lost sinner who is in rebellion against God. In that context, it tells his wife to submit. A woman cannot submit to her husband until she first submits to God.

A woman cannot submit to her husband until she first submits to God.

So how will the woman lead the man to repentance? When a woman submits to her husband, she, by example, teaches her children to respect their father—to obey the law—and to submit to God. The submissive wife brings harmony to the family and order to society. She leads her family, the nation, and the world back to righteousness.

The most eloquent preacher can offer the most powerful sermon, but he cannot come close to preaching the gospel, apart from the submission of the Christian wife. The Church is not suffering from a lack of preaching. … So what is missing? The failure of Christian women to submit to their husbands! And P.S. A man cannot preach submission until he first submits to God.

A man cannot preach on submission until he first submits to God.

John the Baptist spoke of laying the ax to the root (Matthew 3:10). To be born again—to be saved from your sins—to find a personal relationship with Jesus—is to surrender your will to that of your Maker. The primary means God uses to “bring us back,” is marriage and family.

We at Family Foundation Ministry do not seek to blame either the male or the female, but rather to rebuild the Christian family. The idea of women submitting to their husbands is only one side of the story. But the message is long overdue.

Submission is the flip side of rebellion. We emphasize submission because it is the only means by which any one of us can be saved. Our Fit For Marriage initiative rightfully focuses first on the woman.

My wife and I have a unique testimony and a persuasive word. Our program will provide the following:

  • Sound marital training from the Bible
  • Fellowship with other like-minded believers
  • Correction for faulty marriages
  • Help for members who are looking for a suitable mate

We're not the only ones who have addressed the marriage issue. How do we compare with the others? Many programs can take a good marriage and make it better. There's no end to the dating programs that can help you meet someone. But when that someone does not have marital skills—when that someone has unrealistic expectations—when that someone is in rebellion against God—what can you expect? Failed relationships!

Fit For Marriage will train, and then bring people together. Our association is unique. We teach God's Word, which can take a bad marriage and make it good. Here's the bottom line: The only marriage that works is one that has the Bible for its foundation.

If you're not willing to settle for superficial religion, shallow relationships, or a counterfeit marriage—if you want genuine friendship, marital intimacy, and wholesome, well-adjusted children—we invite you to join our association. The Fit For Marriage fellowship is for humble men and women who will settle for nothing less than God's best.

Fit For Marriage is affordable. It is your program—I'm just the director. We offer a twelve lesson study course on CD or cassette tape as part of the membership package. It is available only to those who enroll in the program.

My book, Restoring the Father to the Family, is for sale to the general public, but the study course is for members only.
